Setsubun - 節分

Today is Setsubun (Bean-Throwing Ceremony as a part of spring festival) in Japan. Hana and Ren made masks of "Oni" monster at the Japanese play group that they started to go from last week, so we decided to throw beans at home. We didn't have the dried soy beans, so used popcorn as alternative. Also we don't have outdoor space, so we pretend that outside of kitchen is out door and throw the popcord from inside of the kitchen to outside.....
今日は節分の日。花と連君が先週から通い始めた日本語の幼児教室で、鬼のお面を作ってきたので、家で豆まきをしました。豆がなかったので、代わりにポップコーンを投げる事に。また庭やベランダもないので、キッチンの中と外を家の中と外に見立てて豆まきをしました。

Mom's Birthday - ママの誕生日

Yesterday was mom's birthday. Hana and Ren gave me hand made cards and "winnie the poo" & "elmo" balloon. Dad brought 4 different cakes in the evening and everyone sung happy birthday. Also our friends offered us a baby sit, so Dad took me a nice dinner. It was a wonderful birthday. Thanks everyone!
昨日はママのお誕生日でした。花と連君は手作りのカードと、くまのプーさん、エルモの風船をくれました。夜はパパがケーキを４種類も用意してくれて、皆でバースデーソングを歌ってくれました。その後、お友達がベビーシッターをしてくれたので、パパとレストランに夕食に出かけ、とても素敵なバースデーを過ごしました。皆、どうもありがとう！

Ren's Potty Party - 連君おトイレパーティー

Today we started Ren's potty training. As we did for Hana, we do "Potty party" for the 1st day and all of us cheer up the training. Ren was really proud with his new "Shinkenjar (Power Ranger) under pants from Japan, also "Disney Cars" and "Spider man"pants that he selected. We used 6 pants in total today. He had some accidents in the morning, but none in the afternoon as he had started to understand the concept of potty. I'm sure it'll take time, but it was a good start.
今日から本格的に連君のトイレトレーニングを始めました。家では、花の時同様、初日はトイレパーティーと称し一家全員でトレーニングを盛り上げます。連君は、日本から送ってもらった大好きなシンケンジャーのパンツ、そして先日自分で選んだ「カーズ」と「スパイダーマン」のパンツをはいて大張り切り。本日使用したパンツの数は、計６枚。午前中はお漏らしをしましたが、午後にはおトイレでやるという感覚が分かってきたらしく、お漏らしは無し。まだまだ時間がかかると思いますが、いいスタートです。

Glass Garden - 温室の庭

Today we went to check out the Glass garden in the hospital just across the street from our building. This garden was made as a part of Horticultural Therapy where patients can be relaxed in flowers in trees. It's open for public too and they have kids gardening class and story time. Hana and Ren were excited with this small jungle in the middle of the city enjoying many flowers & trees, fishes and turtles in the pond, and little birds in many bird cages and small rabbit.
今日は家の前の通りの向かいにある病院の中に、温室の庭があると聞いたので行ってみました。病気の人たちに花や木の中でリラックスしてもらう「園芸療法」の一環としてつくられた庭だそうです。一般にも無料で開放していて、子供向けの園芸教室やストーリータイムもやっています。いきなり広がる小さなジャングル空間に子供達も大喜び。色々な花や木、池にいる鯉や亀、何個もある鳥かごに入った鳥達やうさぎを見て、ちょっとした探検でした。

Cirque du Soleil - シルク・ドゥ・ソレイユ

Today we all went to see the show called "Wintuk" of Cirque du Soleil at Madison Sqaure gardern. It was the first time for Hana and Ren to see a real show and they both totally loved it. Cirque du Soleil is very well known in the world for it's unique style which is quite different than traditional circus show, and we were really looking forward to it. The show was really beautiful and amazing and it is great for all ages! Hana and Ren were practicing some of their trick at home already in the evening.
今日は一家で、WINTUK（ウインタック）というシルク・ドゥ・ソレイユのショーを、マディソン・スクエア・ガーデンに見に行ってきました。花と連君にとって初の劇場体験でしたが、二人ともすっかり気に入ったようです。シルク・ドゥ・ソレイユは、伝統的なサーカスとはちょっと違ったユニークなスタイルで有名なサーカスで、一家でこの日を楽しみにしていました。ショーはとても綺麗で素晴らしく、また家族向けの内容でばっちり。花と連君は家に帰って夕方、早速彼らの芸を自分達で練習していました。

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone! Hana and Ren woke up at 6:30am and managed to wait till 8am, but had to storm into the living room where there are gifts after that. They both got tons of gift and spent all day opening them. Ren's big gift was a racing car track and Hana's were white princess dress and "pre school doll house". They'll be busy playing with all the gifts through out the winter! Thank you for everyone who gave us these gifts, and to the comasky family for letting us have such wonderful christmas!
皆さん、メリークリスマス！花も連君も朝６時半に起き、なんとか８時まで自分達の部屋で待っていましたが、その後プレゼントのある居間に猛ダッシュ。二人とも沢山のプレゼントをもらい、一日がかりで開けていました。連君のメインのプレゼントはレースカーのおもちゃ、花は白いドレスと、シルバニアファミリーのミニチュア幼稚園。この冬は、これらで遊ぶので忙しくなりそうです。プレゼントを贈ってくださった皆さん、そして今年も最高のクリスマスを過ごさせてくれたコマスキー家の皆さん、本当にありがとう。
